Deputy Sheriff Job Description

General Statement of Duties

 

Provides protection of life and property within the county boundaries.

 

Supervision Received

 

Works under the direction of the Patrol Sergeant and Command Staff.

 

 

Deputy's Job, Duties, & Responsibilities

 

In general, the duties of a deputy are to patrol an assigned area of the county.

 

Provide a visible presence to deter crime and reassure the community.

 

Enforce traffic regulations, issues warning or citations.

 

Maintains familiarity of the county, note suspicious persons or activities and investigates.

 

Respond to calls for crimes, complaints, suspicious activities or requests for assistance as necessary.

 

Renders First-aid in emergencies.

 

Conducts initial investigations of crime scenes, collect and preserve evidence, obtain witnesses statements.

 

Serves warrants and subpoenas; transports prisoners and assists in booking and jailing prisoners.

 

Identify, pursue, and arrest suspects and perpetrators of criminal acts.

 

Job Requirements and Specifications

 

Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and with respect for the rights of others.

 

Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively, and to determine proper course of action to be taken.

 

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

 

Ability to write and speak effectively.

 

Ability to develop skill in the use of firearms.

 

Good general intelligence and emotional stability.

 

Willingness to cooperate with officials and other police officers.

 

Willingness to learn and increase skill in police work.

 

Ability to react quickly and calmly under emergency conditions.

 

Skill in observation and memory of places, persons, names and incidents.

 

A Deputy must be able to act without direct supervision and to exercise independent judgment.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

 

Must be at least 14 years of age

 

Must have a legal copy of GTA on the PC

 

Must have a fully functional microphone

 

Must have Team Speak 3

 

Must be able to work with a team
